How to clean your home during Coronavirus outbreak

Coronavirus is spreading at an alarming rate and you all are under lockdown. But to buy groceries, medicines you have to step out of the home. So the question arises can you catch the virus from food items or packets?

Extensive information from different sources is causing confusion and increases stress. Definitely, the virus is transmitted through the direct contact of the infected person through sneezing or coughing but it can be transmitted through the surface touched by the infected person. So to prevent the children and loved ones you have to take some preventive measures and clean your home effectively.

Here we are sharing some expert cleaning tips to keep the virus outside your home:


1. Personal Hygiene:

  • In order to clean your home and surroundings, you must clean yourself.
  • Don’t touch your face, mouth and eyes.
  • If you feel like sneezing, don’t use your hands. Use clean tissue and immediately after sneezing, dispose of it. If you don’t have a wipe or tissue, use your elbow to cover your face. 
  • Maintain at least 1-meter distance from the person who is sneezing or coughing. 
  • Wash your hands for at least 20-30 seconds after touching a surface or thing outside your home. If you are using hand sanitizer then be sure that it has more than 60% alcohol. 
  • Wash your hands after using the washroom, applying makeup, adjusting contact lenses, etc. If hands have dirt use soap.


2. Cleaning home

  • To lessen the risk, clean the highly touched surface with the disinfectants. Take precautions while handling the disinfectant for ex wearing gloves. Highly touched surfaces include door handles, toys, chairs, tables, kitchen surfaces, taps, etc. 
  • If the surface is visibly dirty then first clean it with the solution of soap and water, then with the disinfectant containing alcohol (more than 70%). If you can’t use a solution on a particular surface then use a spray or wipe the surface. In case of a spray, let the surface dry by itself.
  • For electronic gadgets, use wipes to disinfect them.


3. Cleaning of clothes

  • It is not clear for how many hours the virus survives on clothes but it is advisable by UNICEF that immediately after returning home keep your shoes outside, clean your clothes with the solution of detergent and warm water. And wash your hands with soap.
  • If you are using a laundry bag then wash your laundry bag also or you can use a disposable laundry bag.

4. Clean food packaging or vegetables

  • After shopping for food items or groceries or vegetables. Keep the packed food item in an area where it will be untouched for the next 6-7 hours. Then after sanitizing it use the item.
  • Wash the vegetables in the solution of detergent and water.
  • Remove the unnecessary packaging over the item and dispose of it in the dustbin with a lid.
  • After that, wash your hands with soap.

So these are tips you can follow and keep your family healthy and safe. The virus is dangerous but the good news is that it can be killed by using simple disinfectants. So you can be safe if you take the precautions. Be safe and be healthy and try to boost your immunity to fight against any disease.
